We are really looking forward to seeing all of you back at preschool on Monday 8th March. We will be getting everything ready for you to come back this week, so here is a special virtual preschool project for you to work on this week.
Remember there are creative play, learning and development activities, music workshops and exercise games from March 2020-June 2020 and from January and February 2021 that you might not have tried or pick your favourites to keep you entertained whenever suits you.
Week of 1st March 2021: This week we are creating a sensory touch book. Make the book your own with your own interests and ideas. Take extended learning ideas as far as you like for as long as you like. You could use an old copy book or scrapbook, or make your own book by stapling or glueing pages together. We would love to see pictures of your books!
Monday: page 1 Sunshine day: to make a sunshine use shiny paper, an old C.D or tin foil for your sun, add more rolled up shiny foil, paper, straws or sticks for the rays. For home-made glue you can mix flour & water into a sticky paste. Crumble your chalk into a little water to make a paint if you like.
Is the surface smooth, flat, soft, bumpy? Can you find anything yellow to stick in or taste?
Take your page outside to play with the reflections and light. Hold it up to the sky and ground, what can you see and hear? What things make you feel warm?
Tuesday: page 2 Rain page: Cut out rain drop shapes for your book or your own shapes for puddles from bubble wrap or foil. You can try painting on top. You can make a tray with tin foil by folding up the edges. pour, drop or flick drips of water and paint. Pop, take your shoes off and stamp on bubble wrap for fun.
Bun cases & pipe cleaners make cool little umbrellas for your page. Shaving foam and paint mixes for a 3D rainy effect.
Your home-made music shaker might make the sound effect of rain?
Experiment by making puddles on different surfaces by squeezing a sponge, pouring water on clay or cornflour or outside; on a path, sand, grass or mud. Does it feel squelchy, cold, squishy, wet? Can you find a puddle to jump in and make a splash in your wellies?!
Enjoy a fresh glass of water to hydrate. Try blowing bubbles in your cup if you have a straw.
Wednesday page 3: Planting Page: Use felt, fabric or real petals, you can dry or press them in a heavy book before sticking them in. Ribbon or wool can be used to decorate, and scent can be absorbed into the fabric, try adding some essential oil or perfumed favourite smells to the middle of your flower. Pipe cleaners make a good stem. Can you add real leaves or make your own?
What do plants need to grow? (water, soil, light & time) Water any plants that you have. Can you find any seeds? Help to spread them by sprinkling them on the grass, blow a dandelion clock or collect some to stick on your picture. Pour them through your hands to play.
Try tasting an apple, orange or strawberry, sometimes seeds are on the outside! Are there any flowers growing near your house?
Thursday: page 4 (and as many more pages as you like) Draw where you would like to go in your book:
Would you rather… go somewhere that was always snowing, hot, rainy or windy?
Would you like to go to a jungle or a forest, why? What would you find there?
Would you rather go up to Space or to the bottom of the Ocean? To a mountain or a lake? Or anywhere your imagination can take you!
Friday: can you email in pictures of your book for us to share with everyone? We look forward to seeing you again in person on Monday!
