Scene It… Today you are invited to make a small world scene:  Choose a book from your Little Stars library bag to read. Today we are going to create a small world scene inspired by your book. What stands out from the story that interests you? What can you see in the environment and background? Are there any characters to make or add to your play scene? (You could draw them and cut them out, use toys you already have, or make characters from pay doh.) Who knows what you might discover when you go outside? Use your magnifying glass to look closely and gather materials such as sticks, stones, shells or twigs to create your scene, and use any of your new craft resources in your pack.

You could gather dried foods like rice, soup mix, or lentils to make different background areas on the floor or table, pasta (different shapes can make tunnels or fences).  Here is an example:

The possibilities are endless when you extend the story with your own ideas, what happens next? Can you act out the story with the scene and characters you’ve made? Or even act it out yourself… here we are being the slug with the silly shell:

Learning point: When we use sensory, natural materials we awaken our senses, which helps us, among other things, to retain more information.

Today’s story is the book we used in the example of making a play scene, we hope you enjoy it. See you all tomorrow – don’t forget to email in pictures of your projects!
